The Sounds of Nature

The Sounds of Nature

A colored pencil piece depicting a symbiosis relationship in nature and how all things—both biotic and abiotic—are connected.

The Sounds of Nature shows two Cerulean Warblers, a currently endangered songbird species, sharing caught prey. One is carefully traversing through calm waters, while the other is standing on a leaning branch of a cherry blossom tree. Cherry blossoms are flying through the piece, in an attempt to depict a wind or gentle breeze. Overall, the piece is meant to evoke feelings of serenity, nostalgia, and comfort.

In relation to my other pieces, it is similar in the concept of depicting an endangered species in a positive/vulnerable manner, showing a moment of something that people would often refer to as “humanity”. Although it is often forgotten since humankind tends to distinguish themselves from other animals and wildlife, it is easy to forget that animals also exhibit qualities and behaviors similar to humans, like in this case, sharing with one another.
